The Dearest One ( 青梅竹马 ) is a short animated film narrating the story about faded love between husband and wife, from a subjective camera point of view.

The story is about a couple who grew up together and married. The wife experiences a series of dreams where she meets her husbband of different ages but he is always distant and strange. When she wakes up, trying to wake her husband, she realizes that the love between them is long gone.

The Chinese name of the film 青梅竹马 means childhood sweetheart. This is an experimental film using a first-person view from start to finish. The audience experience three dreams in the perspective of the wife and feel the helplessness of her being ignored by her husband of different ages. Dreams are chaotic and blurry, and I hope to enhance this effect through the first point of view. The contrast in color style serves as a hint to differentiate dreams and reality. When the audience finally see a set of photos showing the couple's history, they will realize the dreams do not match what truly happened. Happy memories become painful in dreams only because the relationship is alienated. I hope I can implicitly reflect subtle sad emotions through the suggestion of dreams and the wife's decision not to wake her husband, but open-ended interpretations are also welcome.
