Gentle Spring
The film Gentle Spring is a short animation I made for the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. The story is inspired by the oil painting of the same name, which is one of the museum’s collections.
The aim of the Animating Object Project 2022 is to create innovative digital content that will entertain, inform and intrigue young audiences via social medias like TikTok, Instagram and Youtube. To suite the interest of young group, I chose cartoon style for this piece of work.
Gentle Spring(1865) is the work of Frederick Sandys. The figure in the painting represents Proserpina who is the goddess of spring, returning from the land of the dead.
Thus I try to relate the story with the problem of climate change by creating a scene when Proserpina in the painting steps out of the frame into the real world and is shocked by the global warming situation.

Later I replaced the cleaner character with a boy character which is more appropriate for the image of the museum.

The whole film was planed and animated within one month, which is a quite limited time for animation production, but overall, I am happy with the result.
